college students news

A college student is someone who attends a higher education facility such as a university or private college.

They are usually between the ages of 18 and 24 but non-traditional college students can be any age. College students are people that have graduated high school or received their GED and wish to pursue high education. They typically live on campus in dorms but can live off campus with parents, family or with roommates in off campus housing such as apartments. Dorms are usually a college student’s first choice for housing. This allows them to live in a multi unit building with other college students that are around their same age. College students begin their schooling as a freshman and then move up to sophomore, then junior and lastly a senior. College students begin their studies by choosing a major. This is the type of program that they wish to study. Examples of a major would be journalism, psychology, biology, musical theater or English. They can also take a series of classes rendering them eligible for law school or medical schools. This is called being pre-med or pre-law. These classes prepare them for the rigorous curriculum associated with these degrees.

College students attend school from around September to May. They have a break in the summer along with several breaks throughout the school year with the longest being for Christmas and Spring Break which typically last 2 weeks each. The academic year is split into 2 semesters, a spring and fall semester. During their enrollment at their college or university, college students attend classes within their major. Each major comes with a list of required classes that a college student must take in order to graduate with a college degree. The curriculum for a college degree takes approximately 4 years to complete if a student takes approximately 5 classes a semester. Classes are assigned credit hours meaning that is how many credits that class is worth. Harder classes are assigned more credit hours, usually 4, and easier classes or labs that accompany lecture classes are assigned lower credits such as 1 or 2 credits. College students are also offered a variety of on campus clubs and entertainment during their enrollment. Many college students join fraternities or sororities and will live in the communal house of their chosen Greek affiliation. College students can attend their undergraduate university for their degree and then can move on to graduate schools to obtain their master’s degrees.
